Our Review
If you are at all hesitant about entering the zany world of Jonny Plumb, there’s no need for concern but the books should come with a health warning as they are very funny! “Jonny Plumb and The Battle For Earth” is the fourth book in “The Sombrero Galaxy” Series by Kim Wheeler and in many ways it’s his best yet. With wry illustrations accompanying this latest adventurous romp, they’re the perfect companions for Wheeler’s words. He knows exactly what his readers want, and serves up a humour filled saga that school-aged readers are sure to lap up. Yes, it’s tongue in cheek at times, but it can also be quite touching, especially Jonny’s enduring friendship with Legend and Legion, his faithful companions, and then there’s Nanny Noo. She’s been with Jonny since the beginning of his adventures and there’s far more to her than first meets the eye. She also serves to remind readers that it’s never too late to have fun!

Outlandish adventure with great characters, “Jonny Plumb and The Battle For Earth” reminds us what it’s like to believe in magical adventures. Another superb addition to this original series, it is highly recommended!

Yesterday’s magnolia

Yesterday's magnolia by Betty J Vaughn

Yesterday’s magnolia by Betty J Vaughn is a very popular book.

“It’s a shame to have so damned much and yet so little.” An eastern North Carolina farmer’s daughter, Margot, streaks like a comet into the life style of the rich and famous. Her beauty and exuberant, zestful personality gain her entrance to boardrooms, the White House, a corporate jet stocked with Cristal champagne and caviar, a villa in Italy, and marriage to one of the world’s most powerful men. Maurice, the spurned suitor, seeks friendship and comfort from Margot’s sister, Jo, a quiet, bookish art history teacher. Jo envies them both for their ready charm, looks, wealth, glamour, and exciting lives never realizing that it is she who is envied for a life that contains the things that they themselves have not attained. Like the comets, they so resemble both Margot and Maurice are consumed by the friction of life, leaving Jo to remember the magic moments they brought to a more conventional path.

I’m old now and I’m lonely. Everyone I knew is mostly gone, at least the ones from my generation and those before me. The young ones don’t have time for someone old and wrinkled…don’t have time for someone who just wants to talk about the past. They live for tomorrow. I don’t know if I will even have a tomorrow. I guess that means I have begun to die. I always said if you stop dreaming, stop looking ahead, you begin to die. Now I just look down at where I am and back at where I’ve been.

War and Destiny

War and Destiny by George Mavro

War and Destiny book is written by George Mavro

General Karl Student the commanding general of the XI. Fliegerkorps, looked at the map of Crete hanging on the wall in his room at the Grand Bretagne Hotel, German military headquarter in occupied Athens, Greece. The latest news from Operation Merkur (Mercury) the largest airborne assault in history to capture Crete was not good. Over ten thousand men had dropped on to the island. Losses in men and material were enormous. Contact had been lost with the forces that had dropped to seize Rethminon and Iraklion and were presumed to be dead or captured. The only success had been in at the allied airfield in Maleme. The Fallschirmjager (paratroopers) and Gebirgsjagers (mountain troops) glider troops had managed to gain a toe hold on one end of the air strip. If the allies counter attacked in force before the Luftwaffe managed to bring in reinforcements all would be lost. It would be the greatest military defeat that Germany would suffer and he was in command. He picked up his personal pistol. There was no way he would face Hitler if they suffered defeat His honor would not let him do otherwise. He put the gun down There was still hope, another wave of troops were enroute to Maleme.

1830s Cajun Society Captured in New Picaresque Novel ‘Louisiana Rogue’ by Dr. Harold Raley

TotalRecall Publications, Inc., announced today the publication of ‘Louisiana Rogue,’ a peripatetic or picaresque story in the tradition of rogue literature established by Henry Fielding’s ‘Tom Jones’ and other early English novels in the 1700s.
A tale told in the first person, Louisiana Rogue recounts “The Life and Times of Pierre Prospère-Tourmoulin, Picketpocket, Thief, Gambler, Fugitive, Undertaker, Barber, Doctor, Priest, Prisoner, Bandit, and Count.” The book gives readers an understanding of the cultural history of New Orleans and Cajun society during the years 1831 – 1839. It also provides perspectives on early American society from the point of view and experience of the ultimate outsider.
