A feature article is a news story that covers a topic deeply. Do not confuse Feature Articles with daily news reporting. Features often have a “human interest” angle. You want to present the big picture stories behind the news.

When choosing a Feature topic know what is going on with current trends; fashions; recent news stories; as well as prevalent issues and topics that matter to you. Review the online news worthy stories, local, national, worldwide, and include the Human Interest factor that will hook human emotions and interests.

Overview:

The target of your Article is anyone interested in your topic. The media that will pick up your article will be Journalists, Bloggers, and interested individuals. Headline text should hook the reader into wanting to explore the content of the full release. Expand your limited header with in the article’s first sentence and paragraph.

Always Hook your reader so they want more. In addition to a Hooker Headline, you’ll need a Hooker opening sentence and paragraph, one that will draw your reader in and give him reasons to start or continue reading.

The most crucial information in writing an article is; Who,What, Where, When, Why followed by a Call to Action.
Typically there are three to five feature paragraphs to an article of this size. (More is ok)

Headline: Article Headline. (up to 140 characters max)

You must generate a Hook or Lead, that grab the headline scanner interest quickly with a witty or shocking declarative phrase when they read your headline.

If you don’t reach your readers in the Headline, they quickly move on. Beyond your partial headline your hard work article does not even stand a chance of getting read. The lost reader than tunnels deeper into the web cloud of info and into another author’s article only a few mouse clicks away.

Provide your reader with Hooker Headline by showing them the benefits of reading more.

  • Use SCO keywords in the first seven words of the header (most Important) continue with keywords related to the PR
  • Gain help with keywords by using a keyword search tool to help select the high-frequency, top-ranked keywords.
  • Experiment with at least four different titles for each article to identify the best keywords.
  • Use an online keyword search tool to help narrow down high-frequency and top-rated keywords.
  • Rule one, When writing your headline: remember to indicate the WHY. Why should the reader want to continue reading the PR.
  • Each paragraph has one main idea related to the topic.

Opening Paragraph:

Author a Hooker opening sentence that will hold the reader’s attention, making them want to complete first paragraph. Include startling fact, challenging question, dramatic description, or interesting story telling directly related to the Hook or Lead. Complete paragraph one, convincing the reader they want more and to move on to paragraph two.

Based on paragraph one readers frequently decide to read the article or move on, so make it as strong as you can. You must hook and hold the reader with in the first paragraph. Your opening paragraph should be an attention-grabber; short, entertaining, evocative, and sexy, which becomes a “teaser” description for your article.

For your final sentence (contention) be sure to clearly state your point of view on the topic of discussion.

Introduction may include

  • Include Quotes
  • Include Anecdote
  • Contrast
  • Narrative

Paragraph 1 Main Features:

  • If you have a strong Quote or Anecdote the will pique your readers interest it may be a good idea to open or close using it
  • Author a lead sentence that describe or explain what the Feature Article is about
  • Identify and write at least three supporting sentences blending them for each main point in your article.
  • If there are online references or websites you’d like to include, bullet them at the end of each paragraph.
  • Provide the reader any background information to enhance the feature.

Main Feature Paragraph 2:

  • Author three to five supporting sentences in this paragraph for each main feature
  • Include Quotes
  • Include Anecdote
  • Include Reference link

Main Feature Paragraph 3:

  • Author three to five supporting sentences in this paragraph for each main
  • Include Quotes
  • Include Anecdote
  • Include Reference link

Main Feature Paragraph 4:

  • Author three to five supporting sentences in this paragraph for each main feature
  • Add additional sentences for a somewhat longer, more in-depth topics.
  • Use persuasive techniques to support your heading, issue, topic, that you are supporting.
  • Include Quotes
  • Include Anecdote
  • Include Reference link

Main Feature Paragraph 5:

  • Author three to five supporting sentences in this paragraph for each main feature paragraph for a somewhat longer, more in-depth piece.
  • Identify what the readers can do about the feature issues and topics you are supporting.
  • List any support hot lines, websites, support or protest groups, blogs, clubs, for the readers.
  • Include Reference link

Conclusion (Wrap Up):

Write a strong conclusion summary of your piece as an article closing to your arguments or information. You do not have time or space to provide the reader with definitive topic. Leave your reader hungry for more arguments or information on your main topic. You are not writing a definitive piece on the topic, so remember to leave the reader hungry for more.

Provide plenty of interesting information points that will keep your audience thinking about this topic. If there are facts you must leave out it is cool. Additional facts may-will lead to additional articles. Maybe end with a part two, three., if you so desire.

Finally, You will want to tie in your closing with your opening so you may want to add a phrase similar to :

  • It’s really a nice touch if you can tie your closing in with your opening
